Local car dealer goes the extra mile

Richard Carter, local car dealer at Crown Honda in Hendon, has raised a whopping £5700 for Phab Kids by taking part in the London Marathon last month. With donations still due in, Richard expects to reach his target of £6,000.

The sales executive completed the marathon in four hours and 23 minutes. He was motivated after the passing of his brother, 19 months ago, who suffered from cerebral palsy. Phab Kids played a vital role in helping support Richard and his family during their difficult time and Richard would like to repay some of the kindness shown by the charity.

The first Phab project began in 1957, and for nearly 60 years, the charity has encouraged and supported children and adults with and without disabilities to make more of life and come together on equal terms. There are over 170 Phab clubs with 8,000 members in all age ranges from under eights to over 80’s right across England and Wales.

Carter commented: "I’m absolutely delighted to have nearly reached my fund-raising target. It looked like an unachievable target which I optimistically plucked out of thin air. However, due to the generosity of friends, family and the local community, I’ve been able to achieve what I set out to do. Phab Kids is an amazing charity and I could not be prouder to have represented it.”

Crown Honda promised to give £100 from every car sold on the day of the marathon to the charity, with the total amount reaching £1200.
